Found Art #2: Party Girl
Here's a gem. I was actually given this photograph as a gift and it was graciously accepted with great acclaim. Found outside of..um..I think a laundromat or some other kind of place, this photograph has truly grasped the strife of my generation- the constant struggle for meaning and the eventual triumph over ennui. Lets get to the photo.
Lets get to the meat and potatoes of our boistrous subject. Obviously a youthful
celebration, we see what could be an isolated romp in an alley somewhere, a
barbershop rave, or the icy patio of a bowling alley bar, packed with vibrant
partygoers enjoying perhaps the rousing defeat of a rival local sports team, or
even more likely, the rousing victory of waking up in one's own bed after last
night's horrible and forgotten available-light photo session.
The action is primarily captured in brilliant color, with the skillful use of
negative space weaving a web of intrigue across the frame, both beguiling and
titillating the senses. We cannot see the eyes of the subject, which is a bold
manuever tackled with consummate skill, which keeps the daring subject at a safe
distance from the viewer while forcing an ambivalent connection. Additional notice
is given to the yellow streak that continues the perceived arc of the bottle's
bounty, pouring down out of the frame and into your conscious; this photographer's
answer to Louis Breton.
In dealing with processing, the artist clearly invoked his most visceral senses
with the purposeful application of emulsion dismantling elements, which seem at
first to have been randomly administered, but to believe such would be to believe
in chaos where chaos does not exist. More of a buffer between wilderness and
civility, the negative space denotes the same wailing calm of the protagonist in
our sich drama; a harsh soliloquy during the endless jubilation. Clearly not alone,
we also see that this pierced multiethnic crowd is perhaps in a lull, a breather,
a pause, a calm in the eye of this hepatitic storm, a clear reflection of a youth
culture that is forced to feel pressed to act and yet is confused as to its role
in such an angry and unforgiving world and so fills this void of purpose with
indulgence.
All in all, good show. I say good show, man.
